Biography

“I have been making art and music for as long as I can remember. Both of my parents are artists and I am fortunate to have always been encouraged to explore and develop creatively.”

Growing up in a family of artists and musicians, Sathya Burchman engaged with art early and intuitively. His innate curiosity for the visual and musical arts led to both experimentation and discipline. Sathya began formal training at the Laguna Beach School of Art while still in High School and entered college with scholarships in both art and music. After studying ceramic and bronze sculpture in the U.S., Sathya studied woodcarving and batik in Ghana and Indonesia.

In 2001 Sathya began assisting his mother, artist Carolyn Reynolds, in the design and fabrication of public sculptures and in the discovery and technical refinement of painting with oil on gold and silver leaf. His work has shown alongside hers in galleries and art festivals while achieving recognition for his dynamic uses of light and subtle imagery.
